Academic Programs
The College of Architecture + Design at UT Knoxville offers the only accredited Architecture program and the only Landscape Architecture program in the state of Tennessee. It also offers a professional, accredited program in Interior Design and research degrees in Architecture and Landscape Architecture.
School of Architecture
At the time of its establishment in 1965, the School of Architecture was one of the first new architecture programs founded in the U.S. since the Great Depression. Initiated by the architects in the state, guidelines for the school were formulated by an advisory committee of architects and educators appointed by the American Institute of Architects. Degrees include a five-year Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture with professional and post professional degree tracks. Both are accredited by the National Architecture Accreditation Board.
Interior Design Program
The Interior Design Program joined the School of Architecture to form the College of Architecture + Design in 1997. The program is top-ranked in the state and has a student body of approximately 80 students. The four-year Bachelor of Science in Interior Design degree is professionally accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation.
Landscape Architecture Program
The landscape architecture graduate program -- offered jointly by the College of Architecture + Design and the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources -- welcomed its first class in fall 2008. The program is administratively housed in the College of Architecture + Design but is cross-disciplinary in its scope of studies and in the composition of its faculty. The program is demonstrating reasonable progress toward earning accreditation, expected when the first class graduates. The program offers three degrees: the Master of Landscape Architecture professional degree, the Master of Arts in Landscape Architecture and the Master of Science in Landscape Architecture.
