The college has three established Research and Outreach Centers: The Institute for Smart Structure (ISS), the Nashville Civic Design Center (NCDC) and Urban Program in Sustainable Design Education (UPSIDE).
Institute for Smart Structures
The Institute for Smart Structures(ISS) is a research center where academia, government research and industry meet. Housed in the College of Architecture and Design, the institute emphasizes technologies that improve the quality of architecture and the building envelope for the 21st century focusing on sustainability, energy, health and safety and economy. Partners include the College of Engineering and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
Nashville Civic Design Center
The NCDC is a non-profit organization, in partnership with the UT College of Architecture and Design, dedicated to elevating the quality of Nashville’s built environment and promoting public participation in the creation of a more beautiful and functional city for all.
UPSIDE: Urban Program in Sustainable Design Education
Through collaboration between local high schools and the UT College of Architecture and Design, this unique community outreach project, created by David Fox, focuses on establishing long-term economic and environmental sustainability to neighborhoods in need of revitalization.
