Robert B. Church III Series
Named in honor of Robert B. Church III, the School of Architecture’s second dean and a pre-eminent modernist of the era, the Church Memorial Lecture Series is held each semester.
Church's untimely death in 1972 – and the enormous respect in which he was held – was the impetus for the establishment of the Robert B. Church III Memorial Lecture Series. The inaugural lecture in February, 1974 featured an extraordinary lecture by Dean Church’s former teacher and mentor, Louis I. Kahn, in one of his last public appearances.
Today, six to eight lecturers of scholarly and professional note visit the College each semester. The series is a remarkable opportunity for faculty, students, scholars, and professionals to gain unique perspectives on the history, theory and practice in the design disciplines today.
