Biography
Research Areas
Gregor Kalas is an architectural historian who focuses on
Mediterranean architecture during late antiquity and
the early Middle Ages. His research focuses on the post-
classical adaptation of preexisting architecture and the early
medieval transformation of ancient cites, with particular
attention to the city of Rome.
Research Projects
• The integration of public monuments and civic architecture in the Roman Forum during the fourth and fifth centuries with a book manuscript in progress: Transforming Ancient Space in Rome: The Revision of the Roman Forum in Late Antiquity.
• The significance of architectural preservation in late antiquity and the early Middle Ages
• The reuse of ancient architecture at S. Maria Antiqua in Rome
