Curriculum Vita
Before joining The University of Tennessee in 1999, Professor Stach taught for 5 years at the Bauhaus-Universitat Weimar in Germany. He is a graduate of the RWTH-Aachen in Germany, where he received his Diplom-Ingenieur in Architecture. He studied at the Technische Universitat in Wien, Austria. Edgar is a principle in Klinkhammer und Stach Architekten, an architectural and urban design practice with Barbara Klinkhammer based in Weimar, Germany. The awarded collaborative design work includes the competitions for the New Elephant House at the Cologne Zoo (1999), New City-hall in Weimar (1999), New Trade-School Hahnenkammschule Alzenau Aschaffenburg, Bavaria (1997) and the City Hall in Geithain, Saxony (1996). Their work was recently exhibited at the College of Architecture and Design, University of Tennessee. Professor Stach specializes in Lightweight Structures and New Materials. His recent research centers on new tendencies of lightweight structures in architecture with regards to new materials and construction methods. He is currently writing on his forthcoming book Leichtbau-Atlas/Lightweight Structures in Architecture, Ernst und Sohn/John Wiley and Sons, Inc. He recently delivered papers at the ACSA Conference in Cambridge, Canada, entitled "Synthesis of Form, Structure and Material", at the 2nd International Techtextil Fint Soutamerica 2001 Sao Paulo, Brazil, entitled "Form-Optimized Membrane Structures" and at the 11th International Techtextil Symposium 2001 Frankfurt, Germany entitled "Lightweight Building and New Materials." In 2001, Edgar Stach proposed together with professors J. Coddington, A. Drisin and A. Thurlow the design for the new master plan for the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. At various occasions he presented public lectures on his research at the University of California, Berkeley, the University of Tennessee, Bauhaus University Weimar and HTWK Leipzig. Professor Stach is a registered architect at the Architektenkammer Thuringen, Germany.
